THE ARGYLL PIPING TRUST
The Argyll Piping Trust (Scottish Charity SC012513) was set up in 1979 by the Argyllshire Gathering in response to a gradual decline in Piping across Argyll through the 1970s since then the Trust has led the way in restoring Piping across Argyll to the position of great strength it enjoys today.
We demonstrate this each year through –
- staging at the Oban Games one of the two pre-eminent international Piping competitions for solo pipers
- county based Pipe Bands whose pipers have been supported in their learning by the Trust challenging the best Bands in the world
- funding piping tuition in the region’s Primary Schools, to more than 130 children currently, from world class Piping Tutors
- a broad range of other activities focussed on the pupils of Argyll’s High and Primary Schools including staging competitions, providing bursaries and lending sets of pipes to pupils to enable learning.
Since 1996 by funding 50% of the total cost, the Trust has acted as the largest independent supporter of Argyll and Bute Council in delivering free piping tuition to its Primary Schools. Without this funding, this tuition would at best be severely curtailed and at worst would cease entirely.
We have an ever increasing need for sponsorship to sustain our current activities and to increase our support of Piping in Argyll in direct response to the obvious demand for excellence. If you think you can help we are keen to hear from you, so please register your interest by contacting our Chairman Hugh Nickerson using the email form on the Contact Us page.
