Today, with kinsmen scattered across all four corners of the world, the Argyllshire Gathering offers those with Scottish ancestry a chance to return to their roots.
One of the main features is the busy Heritage Tent containing fascinating information and exhibits from Argyll’s past and present culture. Informed representatives of clan societies and local attractions are on hand all day to answer questions and explore the lives of our forbears.
The Games Field itself is decorated with historical banners. Sixteen of these banners flying in the Members’ enclosure represent just a few of the old Argyllshire families. As a visitor you may well identify your own Clan or Sept from this rich display of colour. If you are a Campbell, look above the hill on the south side of the ground. You’ll see a flag traditionally used by your chiefs (the Dukes of Argyll) to assemble the family the Clan Campbell Rallying Standard.
